Bickell rejoined the Hurricanes on Monday after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November. The three-time Stanley Cup champion admitted that it has been a struggle as he played 10 games with Charlotte of the American Hockey League before competing in the last two games with Carolina.

"From where I was at my peak to where I am now, there's a difference in my game," Bickell told NHL.com. "I don't think I will ever get back to that point with the circumstances. For the last couple months, from where I was mentally and physically to where I am now, it's a big change. I'm just happy to finish up here and move on."

Hurricanes coach Bill Peters was emotional when asked about the 31-year-old Bickell after the morning skate on Saturday.

"He's a man's man and he's a pro's pro, and he's unbelievably brave," Peters said of Bickell, whom he coached for two seasons with Rockford of the AHL.

Bickell was selected by Chicago in the second round (41st overall) of the 2004 NHL draft. He owns 136 points (66 goals, 70 assists) in 393 NHL career regular-season games with the Blackhawks and Hurricanes.

The Montreal Canadiens recalled 18-year-old defenseman Mikhail Sergachev on an emergency basis from the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. playoffs before seeing his team was eliminated last week.

Sergachev, a first-round pick (ninth overall) in 2016 NHL draft, played in three games for the Canadiens earlier this season, earning a plus-1 rating with two shots on goal.
