Drouin enjoyed the best season of his young career in 2016-17, collecting 21 goals and 32 assists in 73 games with the Lightning. Drouin has 29 goals and 66 assists in 164 career games since being selected by the Lightning with the third overall pick of the 2013 draft.

Sergachev, who was the ninth overall pick of the 2016 draft, recorded a plus-1 rating while playing in four games for the Canadiens this past season. The 18-year-old Russian also played in 50 games with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 10 goals and setting up 33 others.

The Buffalo Sabres turned to a familiar face on when they named Phil Housley as the 18th head coach in franchise history.

Housley spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators, but the Hockey Hall of Famer also enjoyed a decorated playing career in western New York. The 53-year-old is the Sabres' franchise leader in nearly all offensive categories for a defenseman.

Housley replaces Dan Bylsma, who was fired along with general manager Tim Murray in April.

The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed restricted free-agent forward Teuvo Teravainen to a two-year, $5.72 million contract.

Teravainen recorded career highs in goals (15), assists (27), points (42) and games played (81) last season. The 22-year-old Finn ranked second on the team in power-play points (15) during his first season with Carolina.

Teravainen, who was acquired from Chicago last summer, has scored 32 goals and set up 54 others in 196 career games with the Blackhawks and Hurricanes.

The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Erik Gudbranson to a one-year contract extension that will carry a value of $3.5 million.

Gudbranson, a 25-year-old restricted free agent, missed 52 games last season after December wrist surgery in his first season in Vancouver.

In 339 career NHL games over six seasons split between Vancouver and Florida, Gudbranson has 12 goals and 37 assists to go with 365 penalty minutes.

The Colorado Avalanche opted to buy out the final season of defenseman Francois Beauchemin's contract.

Beauchemin has a no-move clause in his deal and the Avalanche would have needed to protect the 37-year-old Quebec native in the upcoming expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights had he not been bought out. Beauchemin's cap hit was slated to be $4.5 million in 2017-18, the final season of his three-year, $13.5 million deal that he signed in 2015.

He recorded five goals and 13 assists in 81 games last season for last-place Colorado and averaged 21:31 of ice time.

The Blackhawks hired Ulf Samuelsson and Don Granato as assistant coaches.

The pair joins returning assistant Kevin Dineen as well as goaltending coach Jimmy Waite on head coach Joel Quenneville's staff.

The 53-year-old Samuelsson spent last season as head coach of Charlotte of the American Hockey League. Granato most recently served as an associate head coach with the University of Wisconsin men's hockey team in 2016-17. The 49-year-old also was an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues in 2005-06.

The Blues named Craig Berube as an assistant coach.

Berube spent last season with Chicago of the American Hockey League, leading the Wolves to a 44-19-13 mark and a first-place finish in the Central Division.

Prior to joining the Wolves, Berube served as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers for two seasons. He posted a 75-58-28 mark with the Flyers from 2013-15 after spending seven seasons as an assistant with the club.

The Blues also named Daniel Tkaczuk as assistant/skills coach and David Alexander as the team's goaltending coach on Thursday. (Editing by Andrew Both)
