Sept 28 (The Sports Xchange) - San Jose Sharks forward Joel Ward announced on Thursday that he will not kneel for the national anthem when the NHL season begins next week.

Ward made his decision known in a lengthy post on Twitter, two days after telling the San Jose Mercury News that he wouldn't rule out the protest.

The New York Islanders were among a group that submitted a proposal to develop a new hockey arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.
The franchise, which played at the Nassau Coliseum since its inception in 1972, will begin its third season at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Both the team and fan base have been unhappy with the move, and the Islanders have an opt-out clause after the upcoming season.

Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Dylan Ferguson signed a three-year, entry-level contract.
Ferguson served as the team's winning goaltender in its first preseason game, recording 29 saves in a 9-4 victory at the Vancouver Canucks on Sept. 17. The 19-year-old British Columbia native then rejoined Kamloops of the Western Hockey League.
