Natalie Geisenberger broke the all-time record for luge World Cup wins after ending the season in style at Altenberg.
Geisenberger topped an all-German podium for her fifth World Cup victory of the campaign, but more importantly a 38th individual win in her career – moving her one ahead of two-time Olympic champion Sylke Otto and current world champion Tatjana Hufner.
It was Hufner who came second in front of a home crowd, 0.071 seconds behind her compatriot's time of 1:44.364 minutes, while Dajana Eitberger rounded off the podium by winning bronze.
Geisenberger had already sealed top spot in the overall World Cup standings, with Hufner similarly secure in second, but Russia's Tatyana Ivanova did just enough to wrap up third.
And the new record holder reflected on a campaign where the only real frustration was a sixth-place finish at the World Championship in Igls.
"The season didn't go badly at all," mused Geisenberger. "Of course, the World Championships were a bit of a disappointment but I successfully held onto the overall World Cup and have now won five World Cup races."
And there was time for one further success for Geisenberger in the season finale, as she was part of the German unit to win the team relay event for a third successive World Cup.
The 29-year-old combined with Felix Loch and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken to pip Latvia to second and Russia to third – making their final margin of victory in the overall standings even greater.
