The two-times World Superbike champion was airlifed to San Camillo Hospital after suffering multiple rib fractures, and kept in intensive care before surgery on June 22. He has undergone a scan which excluded spinal cord injuries.
In turning 46, Biaggi posted an image on Instagram.
“After the time I spent in there, the most beautiful gift and get out of intensive care after 17 days. Thank you for all the birthday wishes and for all the affections received every day. Unforgettable. I love you.”
The hospital released a statement on Biaggi's health.
“Max Biaggi yesterday underwent a successfully thoracoscopic toilette of the right pleural cavity (the thin fluid-filled space between the two pulmonary pleurae of each lung). In the evening intubation (tube which enters the windpipe) was removed, and there were satisfactory vital signs. He continues epidural antalgic treatment and non invasive respiratory support. The prognosis remains reserved, and he was always admitted in intensive care."
