Yamaha knows it needs luck to topple Marquez

Honda's Marquez holds a 48-point advantage over Lorenzo and 59 over Rossi in the summer break, despite having won the same number of races - three - as fellow Spaniard Lorenzo.

While Rossi has also taken two wins, Marquez has recorded podiums in eight of the nine races, compared to Lorenzo's five and Rossi's four.

"You would think if you won five races you should be leading the championship, but the reality is not like that," Jarvis said in a MotoGP.com interview.

"I hope that in the second half of the year that we can win another five races but be more consistent.

"I hope that we can stop the errors and I hope that we can just keep plugging away and we have to beat Marc - with this disadvantage - on every possible occasion.

"It's not easy, everything can change, everything is still possible.

"We have to keep pushing, keep fighting, win lots of races and hope for a bit of good luck."

While Yamaha's M1 is considered a stronger package than Honda's RC213V, Lorenzo crashed out of the Argentinian Grand Prix and has scored just seven points in the last three races, struggling in particular at Assen and the Sachsenring.

Rossi has crashed out of two races and suffered an engine failure while fighting for the lead at Mugello.

Jarvis surmised that he was "half satisfied but not fully satisfied" with the first half of the campaign.

"Whilst we've been very successful, strong and won many races and been fast everywhere, we've had several issues and mistakes and we've had some DNFs," Jarvis said.

"The big problem this year is that unlike last year when Marc was very inconsistent and had several DNFs, this year Marc has been very consistent.

"He's scored in every single race, even when he fell [at Le Mans] he scored.

"That's the key point for the rest of the season.

"We know we're fast we know, we're strong, our bike is good, our team is good, but we've got to score good points in every single race."
