Rydzek victorious in Pyeongchang to retake World Cup lead

In the first of a South Korean double header, that acts as a test event for next year’s Olympic Winter Games, Rydzek beat Mario Seidl into second place, with Fabian Reissle in third.

Rydzek, 25, finished second in the ski jumping, scoring 132.6 points, before finishing the 10km cross country ski with a combined overall time of 25:12.9.

That meant he came home 20 seconds ahead of Seidl, with Reissle 38.3s behind the winner in third, while Eric Frenzel, of Germany, and Norway’s Jan Schmid rounding out the top five.

The win for Rydzek puts him back into the lead of the overall World Cup standings, leapfrogging Frenzel to go 16 points clear of his German rival.

Riessle makes up the podium in the World Cup leaderboard, but at 375 points behind his two compatriots and just a third of the season left remaining, he looks unlikely to catch the men in front of him.
