Everything you need to know from Saturday's action at the Olympic Games in Rio, with Mo Farah and Laura Trott creating their own slices of British sporting history and Michael Phelps bowing out of Olympic competition with a 23rd gold medal.

Farah stormed to victory in the 10,000m despite being tripped in the early stages, becoming the first British track and field athlete to win three gold medals.
Fellow ‘Super Saturday’ star Jessica Ennis-Hill was denied victory in the women’s heptathlon as Belgium’s Nafi Thiam claimed a superb gold medal, pushing the defending champion into silver, while Greg Rutherford claimed bronze in the long jump behind Jeff Henderson of the US.
Meanwhile, Trott’s third gold medal in the women’s team pursuit elevates her above all British women in Olympic history, with further success possible in the omnium later in the Games.
Phelps joined up with Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller and Nathan Adrian to set a new Olympic Games record in the 4x100m medley race - signing off with 28 Olympic medals to his name.

Leading Brits

The words ‘Super Saturday II’ were quietly being uttered when the women’s team pursuit quartet of Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell-Shand, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald added to the gold secured by the men’s eight rowing team.
But although all three track stars from that famous night in London medalled, only Mo Farah could secure gold, with Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford taking silver and bronze respectively.
Becky James was also amongst the medals, leaving it late to snatch silver in the women’s keirin, with GB set to win another gold in the velodrome after Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner locked out the places in the men’s sprint.

Andy Murray coasted into the singles final, where he will face Juan Martin del Potro, while Justin Rose holds a one-shot lead heading into the decisive fourth round of the golf.

Biggest shocks
