Loeb increased his lead over fellow Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel by three minutes over the 200 mile stage, taking out the day ahead of his Peugeot team-mate Carlos Sainz.
Sainz gained on Loeb over the day, taking the margin down from around ninety seconds to eventually the final finish of just 22 seconds separating the drivers on the Jujuy - Uyuni stage.
Peterhansel spent most of the stage in fourth place until he overtook Nasser Al-Attiyah towards the end of proceedings. Despite chipping back at the overall deficit, Peterhansel still trails Loeb by a fair 7 minutes and 48 seconds heading into the sixth stage of the event.
Loeb was pleased with the result, but stressed the competition was far from over.
"I had absolutely no problems with the car, so I tried to push harder and I got the result. Tomorrow we will be first on the road so it may be another story, but it's a part of the experience we have to take."
Leeroy Poulter is in fifth for the overall competition, being chased up by Giniel de Villier and Mikko Hirvonen in sixth and seventh respectively.
