MATCH GRADE: B

Very unfortunate to lose three such influential players as Juan Imhoff, skipper Agustin Creevy and Juan Martin Hernandez to injury but they kept on going until the end. On the end of one or two iffy decisions.

STAR MEN

1- Federico Nicolas Sanchez
His willingness to take the game to Australia cost his side dear early on with an intercept pass. But it didn’t ruffle the playmaker and he kept on setting up attacks whilst keeping his side in the game with flawless kicking. The player of the tournament for Argentina and he has one match to go.
2- Santiago Cordero
Some storming runs and impressive tackling in the Argentina midfield and never took a backwards step in the entire 80 minutes.
3- Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe
A tough ask against the might of Pocock and Hooper at the breakdown but Lobbe held his own with a solid performance.

ARGENTINA COACH DANIEL HOURCADE

I feel very proud of what the team has achieved but Australia played very well. They are a great team and if we played again, I would follow the same plan as this is what we always wanted."

KEY STATS

Six of Argentina's tries at the Rugby World Cup have come from kick returns, no other side have scored more than four in this way.

BAD DAY

Augustin Creevy
Sad to see this proud skipper walk off injured on the half hour and it remains to be seen whether we shall see him in action again.
