The Norwegian skier took third place overall last season but she found herself on top spot on the podium this time with a strong start to her year.
Identical jumps of 96m proved more than enough to take top spot with a score of 271.5 points, nearly ten points ahead of Germany's Katharina Althaus who took silver.
Bronze was to go to Althaus' compatriot Carina Vogt, whose jumps of 92m and 88.5m saw her to a total score of 252.2.
Sara Takanashi, the Japanese star bidding for a third World Cup title in a row, was forced to settle for fourth as she was unable to add to her nine individual victories from last season.
Lundby, who also topped qualification, said:
It feels great to start a season with a victory, especially here in Lillehammer where I train. I jumped well although there are some things I need to improve. I want to focus on jumping well and on my technique this weekend.
Two more competitions will be held over the weekend as part of the inaugural "Lillehammer Triple" event, with a champion crowned based on winners from across the three days.
Saturday's action will once again take place on the small hill, heading to the large hill on Sunday.
