Judd Trump and Ding Junhui suffer shock defeats in China Championship, but Mark Selby eases through

Judd Trump was sent spinning out of the China Championship when he suffered a 6-4 defeat to former World Championship finalist Ali Carter in the inaugural invitational event in Guangzhou.

There was also more misery for local favourite Ding Junhui following his 10-1 drubbing by world champion Mark Selby in the International Championship final on Sunday as he suffered a 6-3 loss to Marco Fu.

Ding somehow failed to slot what looked like a routine long black that would have extended his match with former Grand Prix winner Fu to a penultimate frame.

The black wobbled in the jaws before rolling along the bottom cushion to slide over the opposite pocket prompting Ding to offer his handshake to Fu with the groans palpable among the home fans.

There were no such problems for Selby, who was in dominant form in a 6-2 win over Scotland's Anthony McGill, rolling in breaks of 81, 74, 72 and 52.

In Tuesday's other first-round match, Mark Allen was a 6-4 winner over Ricky Walden. Allen will face Selby in the quarter-finals after making breaks of 140, 74 and 70 as he won the final three frames to progress.
