Classy O'Sullivan brushes Zhang aside to reach second round

But fashion was the only weakness in Ronnie's game on the night as he produced some classy shots on his was to building a dominant 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven match.

Zhang did get on the board courtesy of a break of 72 in the fourth frame. But his revival was only ever going to be short-lived and O'Sullivan wrapped up a 4-1 victory with sumptuous ease.

Earlier on Tuesday Mark Selby produced a big break when it mattered to beat Scott Donaldson in the first round of the highly-anticipated English Open.

Scottish 23-year-old Donaldson started the match as a huge underdog against the world number one, but didn’t appear to be suffering from nerves in the daunting setting of the Barnsley Metrodome as he strung together a break of 121 in the second frame to get his name on the board.

A scrappy match saw Selby slip into trouble, with breaks of 72 and 57 in the fourth and fifth frames sending Donaldson into a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven match.

But Selby isn’t the top ranked player in the world without reason and delivered a high-quality break when it mattered to level the scores before edging a seventh-frame decider.

In other headline matches on Tuesday, Ding Junhui made short work of Christopher Keogan in a 4-1 win.
