The 22-year-old repeated his success of 2015 by seeing off the challenge of American Nick Baumgartner and Alessandro Hammerle of Austria in the final, with Italy’s Fabio Cordi coming home fourth.
For Eguibar, who finished seventh at the Sochi Olympics two years ago, which was seventh, it was his sixth podium in the World Cup, and a second of the season after finishing third in Sunny Valley (Russia) two weekends ago.
“The truth is that this season I did not quite find a perfect performance,” he said. “I was in three or four semis and into three or four small finals.
“And the day I was in a big final, in Russia, I pushed and finished third, so today I can say I got my spine.
“Today, at last, everything went well. The snow was much tougher, steepnesses were harder too. And for me it was a bit like what happened last year.
“I was third, pulled inside, and like last year everything went very well from there. We went to the 'photo finish' and the winner is me.
“I’ll rest before Baqueira so I have fully charged batteries. I have a mad desire to race at home and the goal is to finish the season on the podium. I hope to finish third, at least.”
Frenchman Pierre Vaultier, Olympic champion in Sochi, secured the overall World Cup title with an unassailable 4,640 points despite finishing twenty-fifth in Veysonnaz.
Meanwhile in the women’s race, Italy’s Michela Moioli took the win from America’s Lindsey Jacobellis and Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France.
The extraordinary win from Moioli was her fourth World Cup triumph in her debut season, and sees her climb above Olympic champion Eva Samkova (who finished fourth) to top the overall standings with only one race remaining. Sportsbeat 2016
