The 31-year-old American triumphed in the Spanish resort of Sierra Nevada just a few seconds ahead of France's Chloe Trespeuch – who won bronze at the Olympic Games in Sochi.
Vermont-born Jacobellis is already one of the most decorated snowboarders of all time, having won ten Snowboard Cross titles at the X Games, but added to her 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015 world titles on Sunday.
Michela Moioli of Italy was third and scooped the bronze medal, while Bulgaria's Alexandra Jekova and Frenchwoman Manon Petit-Lenoir made up the rest of the final group.
