Andy Murray's quest to end the year as the world number one overcame a tricky hurdle in the shape of Martin Klizan at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

Murray entered the week only 915 points behind Novak Djokovic (10,600) in the Emirates ATP Race to London and could take over top spot with a strong late-season showing.
The 2014 Vienna champion improved to 65-9 on the year with a 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-0 victory in his first meeting with the left-handed Slovakian and faces France's Gilles Simon in the last 16.
John Isner became the first player to book his spot in the quarter-finals on Wednesday after a hard-fought 7-6 (7/1) 3-6 7-6 (7/2) victory over 2004 champion Feliciano Lopez.
Isner hit 52 winners, including 31 aces, for his fifth win in eight meetings against Lopez and Ivo Karlovic is also into the last eight after overcoming Damir Dzumhur 7-6 (8/6) 4-6 7-6 (7/5).
Philipp Kohlschreiber came within two points of defeat against Stephane Robert, but did enough to win 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7/3) and now plays sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Elsewhere, Albert Ramos-Vinolas will face 2009 and 2010 champion Jurgen Melzer after he swept past Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-2 in 56 minutes.
At the ATP Swiss Indoors Basle, world number five Kei Nishikori overcame a spirited effort from Italian Paolo Lorenzi to advance to the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (7/3) 6-2 victory.
Argentina's Guido Pella moved into the second round after Frenchman Richard Gasquet retired down 6-2 2-1 after 36 minutes of play.
Gasquet won his second title of the season on Sunday at the inaugural European Open in Antwerp.
Eighth seed Jack Sock, a weekend runner-up at the Stockholm Open, continued his strong play with a 6-3 6-3 win over Adrian Mannarino.
