Round-up: Kyle Edmund crashes out in first round of Eastbourne to Donald Young

British number two Kyle Edmund fell in the first round of the Aegon International at Eastbourne, losing 6-4 3-6 6-3 to American Donald Young.
Edmund, ranked 48th in the world, was playing a man sitting just one spot ahead of him in the ATP rankings and it was Young who edged a topsy-turvy encounter.
Edmund gifted Young the first set when, facing break point, he made a challenge when the rally was still live, only for Hawk-Eye to show that Young’s shot had landed flush on the baseline.
The error cost him, as the American served out to take the opening stanza, but Edmund showed some resilience when clawing back the second.
A single break cost Edmund the third set as he suffered a disappointing fate in front of his home crowd.
Asked by Annabel Croft why he targeted the big Edmund forehand, Young said:
Sometimes you have to go to the strength to get to the weakness... He had the crowd for sure. But I was serving pretty well today. I know he’s a young guy, he hits a great forehand; he was playing well; it was a tough match which only came down to a few points here and there. I’m happy I was able to stay through there mentally.
