The first set was a masterclass from Murray and Soares as they won the opening five games. A break saw Kubot and Melo get back to 5-2 but Murray and Soares broke straight back to win the set.
The second set was far tighter but Murray and Soares dug deep and secured victory.
Kubot and Melo had dismantled the Bryan brothers a couple of days earlier, and with Murray and Soares losing to the Americans the pressure was on.
A loss would mean elimination but their victory now means they finish as the group winners.
They will face Henri Kontinen and John Peers in the semi-final with Kubot and Melo going into the other semi to play Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus.
