Berdych overcame stiff resistance from Spain's Roberto Bautista, but eventually won 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-1 3-6 to make the last eight.
Berdych, the world number six, looked on his way out of the tournament as Bautista outplayed him to take a two sets to one lead.
But the Czech superstar dug in and turned it round in to dominate in the final two sets - barring the moment when Bautista came back from a double break down in the decider, only for Berych to serve out at the second time of asking.
