Austria's Dominic Thiem reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final with a 6-2 6-7(2) 6-1 6-4 win over Marcel Granollers. The 22-year-old, now fourth favourite for overall glory, faces a winnable last eight clash with David Goffin - with Djokovic potentially waiting in the semis.

Garbine Muguruza recorded her second-best grand slam result in beating Shelby Rogers (U.S.) 7-5 6-3 to vecome the first woman through to the semi-finals in this year's competition, showing more consistency than her American opponent and hitting an impressive five aces in the 81 minute match.

Australian veteran Sam Stosur beat 102nd-ranked Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4 7-6(6) after a dramatic turnaround in the second set tiebreak. Pironkova came close to taking a grip on the match when she held three break points for a 5-2 lead in the first set, but the number 21 seed launched an impressive comeback by winning the next five points.
