BREAK! - THIEM 7-5 6-1 5-3 BOLELLI. The Italian's resistance cracks. It's all very timely from Thiem, who will now serve for the match.

THIEM 7-5 6-1 3-3 BOLELLI. Simone's serve just about survives as he endures 12 minutes of Thiem's onslaught to edge level.

THIEM 7-5 6-1 3-2 BOLELLI. It's been routine for Thiem for the last hour or so, but he has a wobble here. Bolelli's big chance arrives at 30-40, but he can't make it count. The Dominator guides a pass down the line and then rattles down a fifth ace on his way to maintaining the scoreboard advantage.

-

THIEM 7-5 6-1 1-0 BOLELLI: Bolelli now wearing a knee support out there. Looks in deep trouble.

-

THIEM 7-5 6-1 BOLELLI: Wheels really coming off the Bolelli steam train. Seems a long time ago that he led 3-0 in the first set. Saves two break points, but the world number 470 is broken for a third time in the set as a backhand drop shot attempt rattles the net. A 6-1 set for Thiem, who will serve at the start of this third set well in control.

-

THIEM 7-5 5-1 BOLELLI: These players faced each other on clay a year ago in Rome with Thiem winning 7-6 7-6, but it looks like this match is going to be a whole lot more comfortable with Thiem enjoying another break for a 4-1 lead and a hold to move 5-1 clear. Bolelli must hold here otherwise he will fall 2-0 behind in sets.

-
-

THIEM 7-5 3-1 BOLELLI: Two service games shared after that early break from Thiem, and a 3-1 lead in the second set. A few more interested fans arrive on Suzanne Lenglen to witness this match. Thiem looking like the player who thumped Rafael Nadal a few weeks ago in Rome.

-
-

THIEM 7-5 2-0 BOLELLI: Another game on the board for Thiem, who leads 2-0 early in the second set. Solid serving by the Austrian, who looks to be really on song.

-

THIEM 7-5 1-0 BOLELLI: Break Critical moments for Bolelli as he is forced to stave off two break points from 15-40 behind. Thiem quickly brings up another one, and this time he gets the break as the Italian knocks a ball wide. Just starting to falter here with Thiem suddenly well in control at the outset of the second.

-

THIEM 7-5 BOLELLI: It is not how you start, but how you finish. Another solid break by Thiem with one blistering forehand on the run particulalry eye-catching. Thiem with 11 winners in the set against five by Bolelli. Dominant at net, and he is one set to the good. Don't know what the early panic was about.

-

THIEM 6-5 BOLELLI: Break for the Austrian. Doing the business at the business end of the set as Bolelli slowly begins to crumble. Looks frustrated as he drops serve for only the second time in the set. But this is a key break. Thiem will serve for it.

-

THIEM 5-5 BOLELLI: Bolelli and Thiem are all square after 10 games. Just get the feeling that Thiem's pace of shot and angle making is starting to be the key here. Slow start from him, but he looks to be in better shape late in the first set.

-

THIEM 4-5 BOLELLI: Tough old joust out here. Chance to break for Thiem, but Bolelli somehow survives. Thiem converting only one out of four break points so far meaning he will have to serve to stay in this first set. Not in the script when we started out.

-

THIEM 4-4 BOLELLI: Thiem finding success at net, winning all his points so far when approaching the net. He is back at 4-4 in this first set. Heat really being turned up a notch here. Pressure suddenly on Bolelli to hold after he led 3-0 with a break.

-

THIEM 3-4 BOLELLI: Nice hold by Bolelli to love. Really had to stop the bleeding in that game and does with some intelligent clay-court play. Just being going for 24 minutes, and they have got through seven games. Who said clay was slow?

-

THIEM 3-3 BOLELLI: These boys are racing through this first set as Thiem throws down the gauntlet on his serve to level up at 3-3. Really important Bolelli steadies the ship in this set. The last three games have whizzed by him.

-

THIEM 2-3 BOLELLI: Games back on serve in this opening set as Bolelli's forehand begins to waver. He thumps one into the net late in the game, and that is a 3-2 lead now with Thiem serving to resore parity here at 3-3.

-

THIEM 1-3 BOLELLI: Finally a bit of relief for sixth seed Thiem. He is pushed hard again by Bolelli, who is hitting some crushing forehands. But this time, he gets out of the game at deuce to register on the scoreboard. Still a break down.

-

THIEM 0-3 BOLELLI: They say it isn't a break until you hold your own serve, and Bolelli has done the business there. No hanging about here. He wraps up his second service game with little sweat and is 3-0 clear after only 10 minutes. Work to be done by Thiem.

-

THIEM 0-2 BOLELLI: A sluggish start by Thiem in this match. Forced to deuce on his own serve before dropping serve. Early days and an early break: the Italian has clearly not come here to make up the numbers. So to speak.
