MUGURUZA 7-5 6-2 PUTINTSEVA: Game, set, match Muguruza!

The defending champion was made to sweat in the first set, but looked more comfortable in the second.

Muguruza will be far from thrilled mind, having been broken four times - but she's through to the fourth round, where she will play Mladenovic or Rogers.

MUGURUZA 7-5 5-2 PUTINTSEVA: And regroup she does. Muguruza now serving for the match after breaking the Kazakhstani for what could be the last time...

MUGURUZA 7-5 3-1 PUTINTSEVA: We should never tempt fate really, and Putintseva shows some resolve to get one of the breaks back that she needs. Still advantage Muguruza though in this second set...

MUGURUZA 7-5 3-0 PUTINTSEVA: Huge hitting from Muguzura as she breaks for the second time this set. She has one foot in the next round, all she needs to do now is keep her composure and hold serve. Though we wouldn't put it past her taking the next three games...

Elsewhere, Ostapenko made light work of Tsurenko - the Latvian reaches the fourth round with a 6-1 6-4 victory.

MUGURUZA 7-5 1-0 PUTINTSEVA: Muguruza starts the second set how she would like to continue, with a break of serve against the Kazakhstani.

MUGURUZA 7-5 PUTINTSEVA: A hard-fought 52-minute long set... but Muguruza finally takes it 7-5. The defending champion was made to dig deep there, can she step it up and seal it in the second?

MUGURUZA 6-5 PUTINTSEVA: It's another break! We may as well get excited when they hold instead. A real see-saw game, as Chris Bradnam puts it on comms on Eurosport 1.

Another chance for the Spaniard to serve out for the first set.

MUGURUZA 5-5 PUTINTSEVA: Muguruza serving for the set... but she can't close it out! She tightens up when in matters and Putintseva wins her fourth break point of the game to level up. Muguruza failed to bring up a set point and her serve really let her down there... As we were then.

MUGURUZA 4-3 PUTINTSEVA: Pleased to see Muguruza backing up my statement that she had stepped it up a gear. She holds to love then breaks to love, meaning she's won nine points in a row.

MUGURUZA 2-3 PUTINTSEVA: A fourth break in five games as Muguruza brings it back on serve in the first! She lets out a might 'Vamos!' as she brings up break point, and takes the first opportunity as Putintseva sends it into the net.

On serve doesn't really mean much given the opening five games, but you get the sense Muguruza stepped it up there with more attacking intent.

Elsewhere, Ostapenko has raced to one-set lead over Tsurenko, winning the opener 6-1.

MUGURUZA 1-3 PUTINTSEVA: Three games in a row for the 27th seed! Not looking good for the Spaniard at the moment, who looks rather flat as she is broken once again. Big chance now for Putintseva to stamp her authority on this first set.

MUGURUZA 1-2 PUTINTSEVA: Terrific response from the Kazakhstani after going a break down. She holds serve to 15 and we're most definitely in for a match here!

MUGURUZA 1-1 PUTINTSEVA: Break back from Putintseva! It's a mammoth opening service game from Muguruza, and after failing to close it out at 40-30, she loses her advantage as the 27th seed breaks at the second opportunity.

MUGURUZA 1-0 PUTINTSEVA: Strong start from the reigning champ as she brings up break point at 30-40 in the first game. She sends a return long however to send it to deuce, but brings up another break-point opportunity.

She makes no mistake this time with a delicate drop-shot.

Right then Muguruza and Putintseva are just about to get underway...
