French Open 2017: Women's round-up Day 1 - Petra Kvitova marks comeback with win

Petra Kvitova marked her comeback from her stabbing by defeating Julie Boserup 6-3, 6-2 plus the rest of the action from the first day of the women's draw at the French Open.

Kvitova was stabbed in the hand in December and needed emergency surgery that kept her out for five months.
It was an emotional affair as she returned to the court and comfortably beat Boserup in straight sets.
The big shock of the round came when Angelique Kerber, the number one seed, suffered a shock defeat against Ekaterina Makarova 2-6, 2-6.

Jelena Ostapenko overcame a first-set deficit against Louisa Chirico, running out a 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 winner.
Monaca Puig won two sets to one (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) against the Italian Roberta Vinci, stumbling halfway through the match that was interrupted by the rain and an injury to Puig.
American Shelby Rogers needed two sets to defeat Marina Erakovic, 7-6, 6-4, as she made her way into the second round of the tournament in Paris.

Highlights: Kvitova seals comeback win over Boserup

30th seed Timea Bacsinszky avoided an early upset over Spain' s Sara Sorribes Tormo, winning 6-1, 6-2 , an easy win for the Polish player.
Madison Brengle of America, and Germany's Julia Gorges, played out a mammoth match that ended with a 13-11, final set victory for Brengle (1-6, 6-3, 13-11).
Christina McHale lost a tight, two-set match to Svetlana Kuznetsova, which the eighth seed won 7-5, 6-4.
