Canadian world number nine Raonic was a Wimbledon semi-finalist two years ago and the 25-year-old has the big-serving game that makes him a threat on the grass.
Three-time Wimbledon champion McEnroe, 57, will hope to guide him to glory at the All England Club in a consultancy role, alongside coaches Carlos Moya and Riccardo Piatti.
Announcing the news on Eurosport, McEnroe strummed a guitar and sang: "I'm taking a chance like I've done before. This time its different, I'm opening up a new door.... When it comes to Wimbledon, I'll be taking on - I'm going to help coach a boy named Milos."
Former world number one McEnroe described Raonic as one of "five or six" players with a realistic title hope at Wimbledon.
"I think Milos is a great guy, he's very dedicated, very professional," he said.
"I just want to consult, be part of this team, add a little bit if I can on his quest on grass. I'm excited about the opportunity.
"Milos is a guy I think can win majors."
