Johanna Konta will face Petra Kvitova in the quarter-final of the Wuhan Open after defeating Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets, on Wednesday.
Eleventh seed Konta defeated Suarez Navarro 7-5 7-6 (8-6) to reach the last eight, matching her achievement in the same tournament last year before being knocked out by Venus Williams.
Konta held her nerve against the seventh seed to take the first set with the only break of serve, with the Spaniard netting a backhand to gift the set to the British number one.
The second set proved to be more difficult for Konta, fighting back against a determined Suarez Navarro and saving six set points to narrowly claim the win and progress to the last eight.
"I was fully prepared to obviously play a third if need be," said Konta.
"I really just tried to be brave and just play the way I wanted to play throughout the whole match, and those points as well."
Konta will take on Kvitova in the quarter-finals after the Czech player pulled off a shock third-round victory over world number one Angelique Kerber, winning 6-7 7-5 6-4.
