World No.8 had to work hard to get past Riske but ended up producing her best play towards the end of the game
Alison Riske nearly caused one of the shocks of the opening round but Madison Keys held her nerve to come back and secure a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory.
Going into the game Keys was one of the favourites for the tournament, with many pundits pointing out her talent and potential to be a future No.1.
However the weight of expectation, combined with the late start time, seemed to way on Keys in the first set as she made a series of unforced errors, allowing Riske to take the first set.
Keys dug deep in the second as she often broke Riske, only to then throw away silly points but her resolve was resolute as she managed to win on the tie-break despite requiring physio during the set.
In the third set she simply overwhelmed Riske, who was really starting to tire, and she produced the sort of dominance that many were expecting at the start of the game.
