Venus Williams powers past Goerges into third round

Venus Williams made it into the third round of the US Open for the third year running as she beat Germany's Julia Goerges 6-2 6-3.
The 36-year-old has been resurgent in the last couple of years and made the semi-finals at Wimbledon, and her form appears to be just as good in New York this year.
"I'm so grateful to be here, still playing, still winning matches, and I can't wait for the next round," said the American.
Williams broke her opponent in the opening game of the match, only to lose her own serve immediately afterwards.
After that she never looked back, however, dominating Goerges - a gritty competitor at her best - throughout an emphatic performance under the roof on the Arthur Ashe Court.
The only wobble came as she served for the match, double-faulting at 15-15 and then making an unforced error to concede two break points.
She saved both with two unplayable serves, however, and from there went on to wrap up the match and complete a remarkable win.
Venus, back up to sixth in the world, hasn't made the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows since 2010 - but on this evidence, there is little to suggest that she won't do the same again.
This time, however, should she do so she would probably meet sister Serena at that stage. Whether she still has enough in the tank to beat the world number one is a very different question.
