Nadal cruises past Seppi and into third round

Rafael Nadal cruised into the third round of the US Open after a straight sets victory over tricky Italian Andreas Seppi.

Nadal broke Seppi three times to take the opening set 6-0, a scoreline that was slightly flattering on balance of play.

A few spots of rain midway through the second set brought the closure of the Arthur Ashe roof for the first time and Nadal also closed out a tighter second set at the crucial time, breaking at 5-6 to take the set and a stranglehold on the match.

Seppi’s spirit now broken, Nadal cruised through the decider 6-1 and will now face Russian Andrey Kuznetsov.
