All you need to know from Sunday's US Open action as Britain's Kyle Edmund was defeated by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal lost in a five-set thriller.

Novak Djokovic moved into a remarkable 10th successive US Open quarter final with an entertaining straight sets victory over Britain’s Kyle Edmund.
"It feels great to play a match," Djokovic said in an on-court interview. "I haven't played much tennis. Baseline shots, both forehand and backhand, were working very well. Think I was most pleased with that."

It means that Andy Murray is left to fly the flag for great Britain after Johanna Konta earlier lost out in the women’s singles to Anastasija Sevastova.

Italian seventh seed Roberta Vinci was first through to the US Open quarters, beating Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 7-6(5) 6-2.
She was soon followed by Anastastija Sevastova, who shocked Britain’s Jo Konta, and Caroline Wozniacki, whose renaissance continued unabated as she overcame home hope Madison Keys.
Angelique Kerber was the last woman through to the quarters after winning her night match against Petra Kvitova.
On the men’s side of the draw, Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils progressed to the last eight after beating Jack Sock and Marcos Baghdatis respectively.

Sunday's highlights

  • Tenth seed Gael Monfils motored into the US Open quarter-finals with a straight-sets dismissal of Marcos Baghdatis, winning 6-3 6-2 6-3.
  • Frenchman Lucas Pouille edged out two-time champion Rafael Nadal in a five set thriller lasting just over four hours.

Jo Konta’s run at the US Open came to an end at exactly the same stage as last year: the fourth round. The British number one went down in straight sets to unseeded Anastastija Sevastova. Meanwhile, Kyle Edmund lost out 6-2 6-1 6-4 to Novak Djokovic.
