Kvitova, who required surgery after being stabbed during a break-in at her home in December 2016, made a return to the sport during the clay court season.
But Grass has always been the 27-year-old’s preferred service and Kvitova quickly hit her straps at the Aegon Championship, racing to a 6-2 first-set lead.
Smitkova made the second set more competitive, but Kvitova served out for a comfortable first-round victory.

She will face Naomi Brody in the next round after the Brit's win over Alize Cornet on Monday.
