With Dodig and Melo enjoying a 4-3 lead in the first set, rain interrupted play, followed by a change of court, going on to win the first set 6-4.
Benefiting from a stronger serve, Dodig and Marcelo did not give away a break point in the entire 69 minute match and only dropped five first-serve points throughout, to seal a comfortable victory.
As Melo won his third ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final with Croatian Dodig, he will next partner opponent and compatriot Soares at the Rio Olympics for Brazil.
