MAKURDI - The 25th Nigerian University Games are scheduled from 24November to 4 December at the University of Agriculture in Makurdi, capital of the Benue state of Nigeria. The Games are expected to see over 1,500 athletes from 36 schools across the nation competing in 15 events.
“During our last inspection at UniAgric Makurdi we saw the school sports committee is working hard to build and upgrade facilities including a new Badminton court. The accommodation hostels are about 80% completed and will be hosting the athletes and coaches”, Stephen Hamafyelto, president of the Nigerian University Games Association commented.
The Games are expected to see over 20,000 cheering spectators from out of town. NUGA believes these Games will create opportunities for the athletes to join the likes of Santos Akhilele (international taekwondo player) and Tezano Odele (200m runner at the Rio Olympics) who rose from the ranks of the NUGA Games.
