MERIDA – In the 58 kg category, Rio de Janeiro's 2016 Olympic bronze medallist, Kuo Hsing-Chun of Chinese Taipei, successfully achieved the first place, with 100 kg in snatch and 130 kg in the clean & jerk. Mexican Janeth Gomez Valdivia lifted 89 kg in snatch and 111 kg in clean & jerk, while Chen Wen Huei, also from Chinese Taipei, lifted 85 kg and 112 kg respectively.
"The competition was really good, I did not expect the level to be so high. Despite winning the gold, my performance was not as good as I expected. In the Olympic Games I had a better performance," the Physical Education student at Taitung National Sports Academy commented. "I am happy with the marks I got, although they could have been better, now I will focus on my participation at the 2017 Summer Universiade in my home country but my long-term goal is to compete at the next Olympic Games as well," concluded the happy medallist.

Bronze medallist Janeth Gomez Valdivia, who is from Jalisco and a student at the Technological Institute of Sonora, said she did her best to reach the podium, despite the fact that this year she did not participate in any international competition due to lack of economic resources from the university. "It was a difficult challenge, but the adrenaline charged me in lifting what was expected," she said. The student-athlete closes a wonderful year with three medals, two silver and one bronze, which will be a motivator to continue participating during the competitions next year.
