FISU President speaks at Hungarian Rectors Conference

BUDAPEST - On 31 May, following the Steering Committee meeting in Budapest, the FISU delegation headed by President Oleg Matytsin, attended the plenary session of the Hungarian Rectors Conference (HRC) and met with the Board of the HRC, the organisation, which unites the heads of higher education institutions of the country.

This year the plenary session, HRC highest governing authority, was held on the Budapest Business School campus, housed in a neoclassical-style monumental building in Downtown Budapest. The FISU delegation discussed the development of university sports in Hungary with HRC Board led by Dr. József Bódis, the incumbent HRC President.
Later on, the FISU President addressed HRC members, highlighting the importance of sports as an essential part of higher education. He informed the audience about FISU educational initiatives, including the ‘International Day of University Sport’ and the first ‘FISU Volunteer Leaders’ Academy’ in Kazan. Mr. Matytsin also announced the upcoming FISU World Conference on Development through Sport in Taipei and expressed the hope to see a growing representation from the Hungarian academic and students’ community at FISU educational events.

The time in Budapest also allowed FISU leaders to discuss university sports and opportunities for hosting future events with Dr. Tünde Szabó, Minister of State for Sport and Deputy Minister Péter Sárfalvi.

The busy day ended with a friendly table tennis match between the FISU President and Gábor Gergely, a famous Hungarian athlete and a three-time medallist of World Table Tennis Championships.
