MEXICO - Sport level above the country will have an extensive programme of competitions at the end of the year, with the completion of seven university national championships, promoted by the National Sports Council of Education and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport, to consolidate their development and to link more student-athletes to this new platform of university sport.
Under the aegis of the ‘International Day of University Sports’, the CONDDE launched this new programme that seeks to reach, as quoted Alfredo Castillo Cervantes, head of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport, the hotbed of high performance in Mexico.
"It is an opportunity to transform sport and evolve, to build new generations. University sports leagues, which drive 5,000 student athletes from 320 public and private universities, allow us to be that hotbed for high performance, like other countries, including the United States does "quoted the Director General of the CONADE.
Dr. Alan Manuel Merodio Reza, Executive Secretary of CONDDE, spoke of new projects during his tenure. "We seek to build partnerships with organizations such as the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport to make a safe step forward in the development of sports programs that impact student athletes of this country."
During September to November this year, the University National Championships Padel, Fighting, Boxing, Fast Football, Basketball, Softball and Athletics will be played.
At the opening of the leagues on IDUS, 450 athletes competed in sports like, Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Boxing, Taekwondo, Judo and Athletics. Student-athletes who returned with medals from the Rio Olympics participated as well.
