Alpine skiing-Shiffrin joins elite club with first super-G World Cup win

Dec 2 (Reuters) - American Mikaela Shiffrin won her first career super-G in Lake Louise on Sunday to become just the seventh woman in Alpine skiing history to score World Cup victories in all five disciplines.

Wearing bib number 12, Shiffrin attacked the course, taking an aggressive line and finishing the race in Western Canada in one minute 19.41 seconds to crush her competition.
Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel finished in second, 0.77 seconds behind, and German Viktoria Rebensburg came in third, 0.83 seconds behind the winner.
A technical expert who has 34 slalom and six giant slalom World Cup wins to her name, the 23-year-old Shiffrin has shown impressive improvement in the speed disciplines, winning her first downhill World Cup at Lake Louise last year and now notching up her maiden super-G win.
In all Shiffrin has 46 career World Cup wins and trails only compatriot Lindsey Vonn (86), Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell (62) and Switzerland's Vreni Schneider (55) on the all-time World Cup list for victories for female ski racers.
Vonn, a mentor of Shiffrin's who is absent from the competitions in Lake Louise this weekend after being injured during a training run last month, offered her congratulations via Twitter.
