The 24-year-old American claimed her fourth Crystal Globe of the season and her first-ever in the Giant Slalom as she skied to victory in 2:23.17 in Soldeu. The win was her 17th of the season and the 60th of her career as she continues to hunt down the record of 82 held by the illustrious Lindsey Vonn, who retired earlier this year. "Each globe is different but I wanted to come out here and really earn it," said the Colorado-born skier.
"I wanted to really, really earn it and deserve it. I'm really happy with my skiing and the whole day.
"I had energy. I was able to compete with focus. It's amazing."
Shiffrin was already in command ahead of the second run and only needed to finish in the top 15 to secure the overall win but came home first to see out the season in style. New Zealand's Alice Robinson, still just 17, stood second on the podium, coming home 0.30 seconds behind Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova was third, 0.41 seconds behind the American.
