National Football League roundup
Aug 13 (The Sports Xchange) - Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee was carted off the practice field Sunday after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury to his right leg.
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said after practice he wasn't sure of the extent of Lee's injury. Lee's lower right leg was placed in an air cast.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, still recovering from shoulder surgery, participated in team drills for the first time in 14 days.
Coach Ron Rivera hopes the 2015 NFL MVP will be available to participate in team drills in joint practices with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday and Thursday in Nashville, Tenn.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, the 10th overall pick in this year's draft, has been moved to the No. 2 spot behind starter Alex Smith.
Coach Andy Reid said the move was earned by Mahomes, who completed 7 of 9 passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut Friday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Tyler Bray was dropped to the No. 3 quarterback.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added a second kicker, signing Zach Hocker one day after releasing Roberto Aguayo.
Bucs coach Dirk Koetter had said Saturday the team would sign another kicker to share training camp reps with Nick Folk.
One day after Aguayo was waived by the Buccaneers, the Chicago Bears claimed the former second-round draft pick off waivers.
To make room on the roster for Aguayo, the Bears put wide receiver Rueben Randle on injured reserve.
The Dallas Cowboys support Ezekiel Elliott but the team is prepared to play without its star running back due to his six-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy after multiple domestic violence incidents.
Coach Jason Garrett told reporters following Saturday night's 13-10 preseason loss to the Rams at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles that the Cowboys will be ready for the start of the regular season.
