Laura Muir led from the gun to win the 1500m at a canter in the European Indoor Champions.

The Scottish runner thrilled the Glasgow crowd with a blistering final 400m following a tactical start to the race, taking a victory that makes it two golds at the Championship for the 25-year-old, repeating her feat from 2017.

Earlier, British middle-distance runner Shelayna Oskan-Clarke produced a storming run of her own to take European Indoor gold in the 800m

Oskan-Clarke set the pace and proved too strong for her fellow finalists to overhaul as she surged down the closing straight to take the title in Glasgow with a time of 2:02.58.

Elsewhere on a busy night of athletics, Holly Bradshaw defied a lack of funding to take silver in the pole vault with a best of 4.75m.

Bradshaw was dropped by Nike in January despite a world ranking of sixth, and prior to the championships talked about her disappointment at losing the support.

“It is a little bit disappointing because last year was one of my best years ever,” she said in an interview with Telegraph Sport, before adding:

I don’t really know what sponsors are looking for. You’d like to think that sponsors want to help you because of your performances and you’re doing well at the sport. But I don’t know whether it’s changing a little bit and it’s more on image, which I don’t have. I can’t do anything about that. Or is it about supporting youngsters who are up and coming?

"Once upon a time this would have killed me and dented my confidence but right now I’m loving what I’m doing, things are going well and I’m pretty relaxed about it."

Bradshaw certainly showed how relaxed she was in a tussle for gold in Glasgow, but the 27-year-old will ultimately be happy with second place as she continues her strong winter.

And that wasn't the end of the medal rush, as Tim Duckworth smashed his personal best over 1000m to take silver in the men's heptathlon, while Britain's 4x400m relay squad took silver behind Poland in the Women's final.
