Glory Alozie has been stripped of the gold medal she won at the European indoor championships last March in Vienna because she was not eligible to compete for Spain at the time, the European Athletics Association (EAA) said on Thursday.
The Nigerian-born athlete decided to switch her allegiance to Spain in July last year but the Nigerian federation refused to release her to compete for her new country until June 22 this year, the EAA said in a statement.
France's Linda Ferga, who came second to Alozie in the 60 metres hurdles final in Vienna, has now been awarded the gold medal with German Kirsten Bolm and Frenchwoman Patricia Girard taking silver and bronze respectively, the Germany-based European body said.
The 24-year-old Alozie won the 100 metres hurdles gold medal at the European outdoor championships earlier this month in Munich.
