Athletics designate Morales for assignment

Morales, 35, was batting just .204 with one homer and seven RBIs in 34 games
for Oakland.

Morales has 212 homers, 735 RBIs and a .267 batting average in 13 major league
campaigns with the Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins,
Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and Athletics. He topped the 20-homer
mark in each of the past four seasons and seven times overall.

Canha has been sidelined with a sprained right wrist. He batted .200 with two
homers and four RBIs in 18 games before going on the injured list in late
April.

Canha hit .249 with a career-high 17 homers last season. He also drove in 52
runs in 122 games.
