Casilla left Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a trainer
after recording two outs in the eighth inning. He told reporters through an
interpreter that his shoulder had been "a little bit tight" as he was getting
loose, and that it feels similar to something that bothered him during spring
training.
"I don't think it's something that will take long to heal or linger," he said.
Casilla, 37, has posted a 3.32 ERA through 21 2/3 innings of work this season,
allowing 11 hits and 14 walks while striking out 14. He is in the second year
of his second stint in Oakland, where he played his first six years in the
majors before joining the San Francisco Giants for six seasons. He has a
career ERA of 3.35 in 645 appearances, all in relief.
The A's also optioned right-handed pitcher Josh Lucas to Triple-A Nashville
and recalled right-handers Chris Bassitt and Carlos Ramirez from the same
affiliate.
Lucas, 27, has allowed three runs and seven hits in 8 2/3 innings of work this
season, his first with the A's.
Bassitt, 29, hasn't appeared in the majors since posting a 6.11 ERA in five
appearances with Oakland in 2016, a year after sporting a 3.56 ERA in 18
games. He has allowed 21 runs (20 earned) in 28 1/3 innings (6.35 ERA) for
Nashville this season.
Ramirez, 27, was claimed off waivers last week from the Toronto Blue Jays, for
whom he posted a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings from 2016-17.
