Olympic bronze medallist Kelly Massey has called time on her career – on the day she turned 33.
The Brit claimed bronze as part of Team GB's 4x400m team in Rio, and won relay silver eight years ago as part of Team England at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Commenting on Twitter, the 2015 World Championship relay bronze medallist, Massey said that now was the right time for a rest.
"Athletes strive for bigger and better," she said. "We reach a goal and it's always "what's next?".
"Little time is spent on enjoying and appreciating. My birthday present to myself is to hang up the comp spikes, sit back and enjoy everything I have achieved."
Massey was not a part of the relay squad that won silver at last year's World Championships as young runners Zoey Clark and Laviai Nielsen were preferred.
With Christine Ohuruogu also missing from that team, there were two of the squad that won bronze in Rio, missing from the team in London.
Ohuruogu was helping coach the squad, but with her and Eilidh Doyle also in the autumn of their careers, Massey's retirement could herald a new era for the British women's 4x400m relay team.
