Noah Lyles triumphs in Diamond League 200m

Noah Lyles won the 200m at the Stade Charlety in Paris in the weekend's Diamond League event.

He set a time of 19.65 in an impressive victory ahead of world champion, Turkey's Ramil Guliyev on 20.01 and Canadian Aaron Brown who finished with a time of 20.13.

“I’m coming off a loaded week in training so that gives me a lot of confidence,” said Lyles.

“It felt fast. I blinked and all of a sudden the race was over.

“I’ve been putting in some great training sessions, but it’s always different when you’re over here in Europe, it’s like a hiccup to overcome in itself with the travel.

“When I was coming off the turn it felt like such a fast track, the fastest I’ve ever felt coming off the turn. Looking to Doha, it’s not about going after Bolt’s record or anything like that, but when we get there we’re willing to go after any event.”

In the men's 1500m event, Ugandan Ronald Musagala ran a time of 3:30.58 to equal his country's record, a time he set in July in Monaco.

Ronald Musagala dipped like a high hurdler to win a men’s 1500m race that was every bit as competitive as forecast, equalling the Ugandan record of 3:30.58 he set at last month’s IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco.

Sudanese athlete Ayanieh Souleiman and Filip Ingebrigtsen finished in second and third respectively.

Sudan’s Ayanleh Souleiman, who had taken over the lead when the second pacemaker peeled away early on the final lap, was passed in the final 30 metres, finishing second in a season’s best of 3:30.66 ahead of the Ingebrigtsen brothers.

The 3000 for the men was won by Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco. It was a rough race for the Moroccan, as he finished with a bloody shoe after being spiked.

Benjamin Kigen of Kenya placed second with Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma came third.

Karsten Warholm triumphed in the 400m hurdles with a time of 47.26, with the Norwegian pipping France's Ludvy Vaillant into second on 48.30 and Kyron McMaster from the British Virgin Islands on 48.33.

The shorter 110m hurdles was claimed by American Daniel Roberts with a time of 13.08. He was followed by Spain's Orlando Ortega in 13.14 and fellow US athlete reddie Crittenden with 13.17.

In the women's 100m, Elaine Thompson won for Jamaica with 10.98, ahead of the Ivory Coast's Marie-Jose Ta Lou, who raced in a time of 11.13, two-hundredths of a second faster that Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers.

The 400m brought another win for Jamaic through Stephenie Ann McPherson's time of 51.11. That beat American's Kendall Ellis (51.21) and Shakimba Wimbley (51.50).

At the 800m, Hanna Green clocked a win for the United States in a time of 1:58.39, 20 seconds ahead of Jamaica's Natoya Goule.
