The mother-of-two made her first Olympic appearance at Sydney in 2000 and has qualified for the British team at every Games since.
A sixth Olympics in Tokyo 2020 would see her equal former British javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson's record. The distance runner is still a long way off becoming Britain's oldest ever Olympian but at 46 years of age she would almost certainly be one of the oldest athletes competing at the Games.
A sixth Olympics would not be the first record Pavey has set after she became the oldest woman to win a European Championship gold by claiming the 10,000m title in 2014 aged 40, just 11 months after giving birth.
"I forget how old I am. I'm not complacent but I will attempt to make my sixth Olympics," the Devon runner told BBC Sport.
"I need to get a good qualifying time this year, and really want to start racing in early spring, but I enjoy the challenge.
"It's a difficult ask, I'm totally aware of that, but something that's fun to try. I love the ups and downs of the journey."
Pavey’s best finish so far at any Olympics came at Athens 2004 when she finished fifth in the 5000m despite tearing her calf muscle three months prior.
This time around Pavey will be hoping to stay fit to give her the best chance of selection and the opportunity to make history.
