She looks like she might burst into tears as she gives away another point to hand Kenin championship point - but the American returns the serve long. One of the odd things about Kenin is she looks angry even when she wins a point, and she does that on the next, kicking at the baseline as she moves to her second championship point - and then Muguruza double-faults again.

Gritted teeth from Muguruza, using her smash and excellent serve to good effect. Then Kenin starts to push her more, making her make mistakes, and gets the luck of a net cord and then a double-fault from the Spaniard to give her the break.

Muguruza is trying to keep the length on her shots but she's lost her radar, just hitting long time and again. Kenin is level and we're going three. What a set of tennis from the 21-year-old.

Double-fault from Zverev gives Thiem the edge at the start of the tie-break. Some fine cross-court hitting from both players before a couple of errors from Thiem allows Zverev back into it. Maybe nerves from both of them as they overhit their shots. Thiem's forehand suddenly returns to his armoury and he hits a great one to take a 5-3 lead, then strikes just on the corner of the line to get himself three match points. Zverev saves one with an ace, but some superlative striking from Thiem means he takes the second. The pair hug at the net.

Some massive serving from both players, and Thiem gets the mini-break as Zverev pulls his shot just wide of the tramlines. Thiem is hitting his shots much, much better as Zverev steps back a little, and it's three set points to the Austrian - he takes the first with a brilliant cross-court angled winner.

Thiem turns his ankle slightly as he moves to his right to make a shot, but he seems fine. Hold to 30 and we go to a tie-break.

What a shot from Zverev, reaching up and powering the smash winner off a smash from Thiem! Then an absolutely wonderful rally as Thiem sends his shot just past Zverev's left hip. Thiem gifts Zverev a break point with another smash, this one right into the net, but he saves it with some smart thinking. The second break point comes and goes with a 24-shot rally, ended as Zverev loses his balance slightly. Thiem has his first set point - and takes it with his third ace of the day.

Thiem is still hitting some massive forehands and then tries to mix it up with one of the most ludicrous shots in the history of tennis, which just trickles into the net. The plan was clear, just executed badly. He grits his teeth and serves well for the next few points before sending another to the net for deuce. His twelfth unforced error of the day gives Zverev his first set point - and another shot into the net means he takes it in 40 minutes.

That is a demolition from Novak Djokovic and in this kind of form he is going to be a big favourite in the final. Federer had Djokovic in trouble early on in the first set, but once the defending Champ worked out how to adjust his tactics it was one-way traffic, and the ruthless quality of Novak’s game was way too good for his tiring opponent. This sort of result raises the very real possibility that Federer is never going to have enough to win a Grand Slam again. Djokovic, in contrast, will be supremely confident of making it eight titles in Melbourne on Sunday against either Dominic Thiem or Alexander Zverev. He’s won this one 7-6 6-4 6-3.

Djokovic is playing at his very best, with the sort of swagger that can silence hostile crowds and overpower even the very best opponents. He takes the second set with a brilliant break of serve in the 10th game and this is his to lose now. Federer looks like a bit like a 38-year-old who has played two five-setters in this tournament already, but if anybody can pull this out of the bag then he can.

Wow, what a first set. Tennis of the highest quality sees Federer surge into a 5-2 lead before being pegged back by Djokovic. The Serb enters the tiebreak with all of the momentum and dominates it, winning 7-1. Phenomenal tactical tennis, fascinating ebbs and flows, brilliant.

The match opens up with an epic six-minute game as Federer comes from 15-40 down and survives an extended battle at deuce to eventually hold serve. It will worry Federer's team just how easily Djokovic was able to disrupt the service pattern.

Kenin has been broken for the first time in the match with Barty powering through the third game.

So Dominic Thiem beat Rafa Nadal yesterday to set up a mouthwatering clash against Alex Zverev in the Australian Open semis.

But who will win what is sure to be an epic semi-final battle between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic today?

That's later on. First up we have Ash Barty against Sofia Kenin on Rod Laver Arena before Simona Halep takes on Garbine Muguruza.

11:45 - Nadal battling back?

The crowd goes wild as Nadal goes 0-30 up on the Thiem serve. He's only two points away from winning the set! An ace halves the deficit but then a backhand into the net gives the Spaniard two set points. A return goes long to save the first but another netted backhand gives Rafa the set. Is the comeback on?

11:03 - Thiem wins second epic breaker

If Nadal is to get into the semi-finals, he's going to have to do it the hard way.

Thiem goes 4-0 up in the tiebreaker but Nadal makes an extraordinary comeback to get it to 4-0.

The Nadal comeback is finally halted as he is rushed into sending a forehand long then the Spaniard puts in a poor drop shot which Thiem pounces on to bring up two set points. A fortunate net cord then sends Nadal charging to the net and Thiem picks him off with a forehand. A lucky way to win the set, but he deserved it. Massive comeback needed by Rafa.

Nadal goes up a point with a deft touch, then gets a mini-break with a beautiful drop volley. Thiem wins a spectacular rally to make it 2-2, though, then Nadal nets to give the impetus to the Austrian. Nadal's forehand recovers the mini-break and we're back on serve, but he hands the advantage back to the Austrian by putting one into the tramlines and an incredible return gives Thiem three set points. He only needs one.

Nadal brings up set point after breaking Thiem with a fantastic lob (see below) but the Austrian refuses to give up and gets back on serve thanks to some gutsy returning and some fine winners. It could be a long one here...

A telling statistic: Raonic had conceded just seven break points in all four of his matches leading into this match but conceded nine here. Saving eight of them is no mean feat but he'll be disappointed with his serving. In total he conceded 20 points on serve, including four double faults. By contrast, Djokovic lost only four points on his serve.
