Baseball-Highlights of Friday's Major League Baseball games

Yankees 5, Red Sox 4

Todd Frazier hit a tie-breaking single with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning as the New York Yankees pulled off a stunning comeback to beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4, ending their long-time rival's season-high eight-game winning streak.

Blanked for seven innings, the Yankees came alive against Addison Reed (0-1) in the eighth. After Brett Gardner was hit on the foot, Aaron Hicks lifted a full count slider into the right-field seats near the foul pole to make it a one-run game.

The Yankees had runners at first and second after Gary Sanchez singled and Aaron Judge walked. Reed was replaced by Joe Kelly, who gave up a bloop single to Didi Gregorius to tie the game at 3-3.

Four pitches later, Frazier blooped Kelly's 100 mph fastball in front of left fielder Andrew Beintendi as Judge scored. The Yankees loaded the bases and added insurance when Ronald Torreyes lifted a sacrifice fly.

Cardinals 8, Braves 5

The streaking St Louis Cardinals raced to a 6-1 third-inning lead and held off Atlanta for an 8-5 decision at Busch Stadium.

Upping their record to 60-56 with a seventh straight win, the Cardinals got two doubles and three RBIs from Paul DeJong, plus two hits and two RBIs from Randal Grichuk.

Their only hit after Tommy Pham's two-out double in the third was a big one -- DeJong's two-out, two-run double down the right field line in the eighth.

Mets 7, Phillies 6

Amed Rosario's solo homer in the ninth inning gave New York a win over Philadelphia. His first major league homer capped a three-hit night for Rosario, who scored three times.

Yoenis Cespedes knocked in four runs and hit a three-run homer in the win, the Mets' second in as many nights over the Phillies.

Twins 9, Tigers 4

Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler each hit home runs that drove in a total of five runs and powered Minnesota to a victory over Detroit that was its sixth win in a row.

Ryan Pressly (2-2) picked up the win after starter Kyle Gibson was unable to get the final out of the fifth inning. He retired all four batters he faced.

Indians 5, Rays 0

Carlos Carrasco had a no-hitter through 6 2/3 innings to help Cleveland earn a shutout win against Tampa Bay.

Carrasco (11-5) gave up two hits in eight innings and struck out 10 on 106 pitches (73 strikes). Cleveland (61-52) scored five runs in the fifth inning.

Marlins 6, Rockies 3

Giancarlo Stanton belted his major-league-leading 40th home run and Derek Dietrich hit a tie-breaking single as Miami rallied to defeat Colorado.

Stanton, who hit a solo shot in the sixth, is two homers shy of Gary Sheffield's franchise record of 42, set in 1996.

Pirates 4, Blue Jays 2

Jameson Taillon pitched into the seventh inning and Pittsburgh scored four unearned runs in the third inning of a victory over Toronto.

Taillon (7-5) allowed six hits, one walk and two runs while striking out seven in six-plus innings for his first win since July 20, a span of three winless outings.

White Sox 6, Royals 3

A speedy and timely offensive attack and a dazzling team debut from right-hander Reynaldo Lopez boosted Chicago to a victory against Kansas City.

White Sox center fielder Adam Engel broke a tie with an RBI triple in the seventh inning and scored with a headfirst slide on Yolmer Sanchez's sacrifice bunt one batter later.

Tim Anderson added a two-run home run later in the inning to provide the final margin for the White Sox, who won their fourth straight game.

Rangers 6, Astros 4

Texas rode a strong start from Cole Hamels and held off Houston late as the Astros lost their fourth consecutive game.

After being swept by the White Sox in Chicago, the Astros are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season.

Reds 11, Brewers 10

Zack Cozart and Tucker Barnhart hit solo home runs and Cincinnati pounded out 15 hits but still had to hold off a late rally in a victory over Milwaukee.

Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson (9-6) absorbed most of the damage, allowing 10 runs -- nine earned -- on 11 hits and three walks while striking out four over 3 2/3 innings.

Angels 6, Mariners 5

Mike Trout scored the go-ahead run on an error in the top of the ninth inning as Los Angeles rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Seattle.

The Angels won their fourth game in a row and are one-half game out of the American League's second and final wild-card berth.

Padres 4, Dodgers 3

Manuel Margot continued to show he is a keeper for San Diego with his second multi-home run game of the season.

The rookie center fielder hit two homers as the Padres showed some resiliency in a win over Los Angeles, which has the best record in baseball.

Athletics 5, Orioles 4

Matt Olson hit a two-run homer and Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with two doubles, leading Oakland to a victory against Baltimore.

The A's trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, but scored two times to take a winning lead.

Cubs 8, Diamondbacks 3

Kyle Schwarber homered in his first game in Chase Field since being badly injured there last season, Alex Avila followed him with another homer and Kris Bryant reached base five straight times to lead Chicago past Arizona.

With the Cubs up 3-2 in the sixth, Schwarber hit a deep drive to center field -- not that far from where his 2016 regular season ended with two torn knee ligaments -- for his 19th homer.

Giants v Nationals (postponed)

The opener of a three-game series between last-place San Francisco and first-place Washington was rained out, meaning the start of the series is pushed back to Saturday.

Friday's game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Sunday. (Editing by John O'Brien)
