Baseball roundup: Manaea fires no-hitter vs. Red Sox

Manaea (3-2) tossed the 12th no-hitter in franchise history, finishing the
milestone with 108 pitches and facing three above the minimum. He was mobbed
by his teammates after completing the seventh no-hitter in the Oakland era as
"Celebration" by Kool and the Gang blared.

"Oh man, my heart was beating out of my chest, and I was trying to do
everything I could [to stay calm]," Manaea told Braden in a postgame
interview. The effort also marked Manaea's first career complete game.

The Red Sox were no-hit for the 12th time in team history and first time since
April 22, 1993. The Red Sox dropped to 17-3 and saw an eight-game winning
streak stopped.

Indians 4, Orioles 0

Mike Clevinger (2-0) pitched his first career shutout and Jose Ramirez went
3-for-4 with a homer as Cleveland cruised over host Baltimore at Camden Yards.

Clevinger (2-0) was terrific while allowing just two hits in his first career
complete game. The right-hander struck out three and walked two in throwing
107 pitches. Yonder Alonso and Yan Gomes also went deep for Cleveland, which
won for just the second time in five games.

Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman (0-4) served up the three homers and gave
up four runs and eight hits in six innings. Tillman struck out five and walked
one as Baltimore lost for the seventh time in eight games.

Phillies 6, Pirates 2

Rhys Hoskins drove in four runs, including three on a go-ahead home run in the
sixth inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in
Philadelphia.

Hoskins added a run-scoring single in a three-run eighth inning as the
Phillies beat the Pirates for the third time in three days. Sean Rodriguez
homered for Pittsburgh, which lost for the fifth time in its last six games.

Aaron Nola (2-1) got the win for the Phillies, allowing two runs and six hits
in seven innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Michael Feliz
(0-1) took the loss in relief, coming in with two runners on base and allowing
Hoskins' home run. Closer Hector Neris, who got the final out of the eighth
inning, pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

Cardinals 4, Reds 3

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina hit his sixth homer of the season to break a
tie in the seventh inning and Paul DeJong and Dexter Fowler also homered as
the Cardinals beat the reeling Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium.

Molina homered off Jared Hughes (0-2) as the Cardinals regained the lead after
Cincinnati tied the game with three two-out runs in the top of the seventh.
The Cardinals (12-8) have won all six games against the Reds this season,
extending their head-to-head streak to 10 games.

Rookie Jordan Hicks (1-0) retired the final batter of the seventh inning and
went the rest of the way for his first major league victory. Hicks' fastball
has averaged 99 mph, the highest in the majors, according to Fangraphs.com.

Tigers 12, Royals 4

Nicholas Castellanos and Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs apiece as the
Detroit Tigers rolled over the struggling Kansas City Royals.

Castellanos had three hits, including his first homer this season. Cabrera
supplied two hits, walked twice and also scored twice as the Tigers won for
the fifth time in six games.

Winning pitcher Mike Fiers (2-1) allowed four runs (two earned) on 10 hits in
5 1/3 innings. Royals ace Danny Duffy (0-3) gave up six runs on 10 hits in 4
2/3 innings for the Royals, who have lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Yankees 9, Blue Jays 1

Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs and Miguel Andujar keyed a
seven-run sixth with a three-run double as the New York Yankees defeated the
visiting Toronto Blue Jays.

Jordan Montgomery (2-0) held the Blue Jays to one run on four hits and three
walks. The left-hander struck out five in six innings for the Yankees, who
have won two of the first three games of the series.

Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman (0-2) allowed eight runs (six earned), five
hits and four walks while striking out five in 5 1/3 innings.

Mariners 9, Rangers 7

Robinson Cano hit a go-ahead, two-run home run as part of a five-run,
eighth-inning uprising for Seattle, and Edwin Diaz got the final four outs for
his MLB-leading eighth save as the Mariners came from behind to beat Texas in
the middle game of a three-game series in Arlington, Tex.

The start of the contest was delayed 1 hour, 25 minutes by rain and neither
Seattle starter James Paxton nor Rangers starter Bartolo Colon figured in the
decision. Paxton gave up five runs on six hits in four innings of work while
Colon, coming off a game where he retired the first 21 batters he faced,
allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Cano, Dee Gordon and Nelson Cruz had three hits each for Seattle, which
pounded out 13 hits against five Rangers pitchers. The Rangers' offense was
not the issue, as Texas had 11 hits, led by two each by Shin-Soo Choo, Isiah
Kiner-Falefa, Nomar Mazara and Jurickson Profar.
