The league is expected to move up the start of its annual moratorium on
negotiations from midnight ET on July 1 to 6 p.m. on June 30, ESPN reported
Wednesday citing sources.
The change has not been finalized, but will likely be implemented this year,
per the report.
Under the current antiquated system, there was often a mad dash for teams to
speak with players and their representatives at 12:01 a.m. Negotiations
regularly extended into the early morning hours.
This proposed change to the NBA calendar would allow teams to start talking
with free agents at a more reasonable hour.
