Patrick McCaw's short stay with Cleveland Cavaliers has raised eyebrows around the NBA, and the league itself is looking into the matter, according to multiple reports.

At the request of the Golden State Warriors -- McCaw's team the past two
seasons that refused to match Cleveland's two-year, $6 million, non-guaranteed
offer -- the NBA is reviewing the situation, which was first reported by The
New York Times. A person with knowledge of the matter spoke Tuesday with The
Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the
investigation have not been revealed publicly.
McCaw played three games with the Cavs, who waived him Sunday before his
contract would have been guaranteed throughout the rest of this season. McCaw,
who averaged 1.7 points in 17.7 minutes, cleared waivers and is now an
unrestricted free agent.
The Warriors held McCaw's rights as a restricted free agent, then elected not
to match offer sheet he signed Dec. 28 with the Cavs as they considered the
potential luxury-tax ramifications involved.
How long the league's review will take has not been determined, nor is it
clear what the Warriors might be seeking.
Playing for the Warriors in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, McCaw averaged
4.0 points in 128 regular-season appearances.
